The Danish Association of Visual Artists welcomes Tobias Lauritzen as new communications manager and editor, and Maria Sejersten Jeppesen as new political consultant and project manager.
BKF's new editor and communications manager, Tobias Lauritzen, is looking forward to the work and describes art as crucial for society.
“Art is what sets the direction for society. It cuts into reality and shows us the structures that move beneath it. So when politicians are looking for ideas for the society of the future, they should once again look in the direction of art. I am very much looking forward to working hard to make the conditions for visual artists better than they are today.”
Tobias Lauritzen is educated at the Danish Writers' School and Roskilde University in journalism and history. He is also an editor at Forlaget Basilisk and has previously worked on the trade magazines Elementary school, The engineer, Academic magazine og SINDbladet.
New political consultant and project manager
Maria Sejersten Jeppesen has joined as a new political consultant and project manager at BKF, and she is looking forward to working to ensure that art and the conditions of artists are placed higher on the political agenda.
“It is both about improving the very basic social and economic conditions for visual artists, who, like other artists in precarious working conditions, balance a patchwork economy that the system is not designed for. We need to change that. Visual arts have always played an essential role in our society and democracy, but as the world looks today, they are perhaps needed more than ever right now. Art is the answer to the noise and clamor we get from AI and big tech. Artists ask the questions that your ChatGPT cannot answer.”
In recent years, Maria Sejersten Jeppesen has worked as an independent consultant, and before that she worked for several years with political advocacy and communication within the trade union movement. She has also previously been a labor market journalist at A4 Medier and is a trained journalist from the Aarhus School of Journalism.
At the same time, BKF would like to express its gratitude to former communications manager and editor Steen Bruun Jensen, political consultant and project manager Yasmin Davali, and course and project manager Karen Mette Fog Pedersen for their strong collaboration and their great efforts for the association.
