5-day masterclass in veneer form tensioning

Course description
We begin with a half-day theoretical introduction to the technical prerequisites for formwork and a review of the relevant wood technology. Design parameters, advantages and limitations in different areas of application are reviewed – and hopefully challenged.
The workshop is 'hands-on', and the expectation is that we test and present as many different methods as possible to each other.
As with so much else, preparation is key! Therefore, a large part of the time will be spent on the production of molds and fixtures. This in itself provides an understanding of the technique. However, there will also be time to experiment with the veneer itself and test how prestressed veneer works.
In addition to the production of molds for industrial use, two methods, especially suitable for prototypes and uniques, will be tested. Theory and application of 3D veneers will be reviewed, but not applied.
The last half day will be spent presenting the different methods to each other and of course the results.
After the workshop, you will be enriched with:
- Knowledge of the wood technology prerequisites for shape span
- Knowledge of building industrial tools
- A mold that can be used for prototype development
- An understanding of how to bend veneer in multiple dimensions
- Dust on the clothes and glue on the fingers
