BKF course: Art consultants for art in public spaces – Project management for artists

Do you work with decoration tasks or facilitate processes that use artists? Then this course in project management and the advisory role might be something for you. If you work as an art consultant or are considering it, the course can also give you a better understanding of the contexts in which you work. 

On the course you will strengthen your project management skills as an artist and become more aware of your competencies and role as an art consultant or advisor. We will also work on how you can manage yourself and your own resources, as well as look at how you can work with establishing partnerships and what partnerships actually are. 

purpose:
To become a better project manager on your own productions or an advisor and art consultant who assists the artist and the client during the creation of a decoration project in public space. You will strengthen your project management skills as an artist, gain concrete knowledge about your possible areas of work and become more aware of your competencies. 

Actuality:
When public and private developers realize public art projects and decorations, they often use advisers who act as art consultants. Eg. the art circular means that significant funds are set aside for art in public construction. Municipalities also use art consultants, just as companies and organizations can request advice on art strategies and specific decorations. Art consultants do not carry out the art projects themselves, but act as advisors and project managers who help art projects along. Both artists and other professional groups function in practice as art consultants. 

With this course, BKF wants to educate and encourage more artists to apply for and take on this type of work, so that more artistic skills can be developed in public construction and public art in a broad sense. 

Who is the course aimed at?
The course's primary target audience is artists who work as art consultants/art advisors AND artists who would like to get a feel for whether it is something for them to stay. Secondly, it is relevant for artists who create art in public spaces or art in relation to architects/decorative tasks. 

Teaching method:
The course is designed as an interaction between professional presentations, dialogue-based exercises and independent work. The work is case-based and with concrete tools, so that the individual gains new knowledge, inspiration and better insight into processes and actors in public art and decorative tasks. The teaching program is indicative and may be adjusted. 

educators:
Christina Prip is a trained visual artist and architect. Christina has been a performing artist herself, helped artists with decoration tasks and worked as an architect. Christina has taught at the School of Architecture and held courses at the Academy of Fine Arts.    

Camilla Hedegaard Møller is a trained architect and researcher. Camilla has many years of experience teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts' School of Architecture and as an advisor in relation to integrated art. Camilla researches i.a. in processes in construction and is interested in the contribution of artists in construction projects.    

COURSE INFORMATION:

Date: 4 Saturdays: 24/10, 31/10, 14/11 and 21/11 2026, every day 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Please note! Course certificates are only issued if you have participated all 4 times from start to finish. 

Place: Copenhagen 

Out-of-pocket payment: 900 DKK incl. catering (for non-members 2700 DKK) 

Registration deadline: September 1, 2026. Applicants are prioritized based on who has not previously benefited from the course.

– EA few lines about yourself, your motivation, why you would like to participate in the course, and what you need to improve in terms of project management and consulting.

– Your full CV, preferably longer than just 1 page and must include full profile text (i.e. not just an outline of exhibitions) Please note! The instructors on the course will look at your CV, among other things, in relation to group composition and competency exercises on the course. It must not contain personally sensitive information such as CPR and address.

– Optional: Please write when registering if you have any special needs or anything we should be aware of (e.g. reservations regarding text work/reading or other things)
