The transition to green infrastructure, sustainable energy and new climate-friendly habits in everyday life requires that we include art and culture.

The magnificent beach biotope (from the Greek: bios, meaning 'life' and topos 'place') KLIT, created by visual artist Lea Porsager, is located on a square between two educational institutions in Odense and is part of a green feature that runs from Kongens Have in the City above the footbridge to Åløkke Forests. How do we reverse the crisis that the climate, biodiversity and the relationship between man and the planet are in? How can climate solutions in, for example, the built environment be made relevant to citizens and users? And what measures help to make the climate crisis understandable?

The visual arts as a relational subject and form of work can create relevance and understanding as well as challenge people's perceptions and habits. Therefore, art and the visual artist have their natural role in the climate fight and in the development of new climate solutions.

We will identify where art's work area is strengthened and developed in connection with climate-related projects and agendas, make the visual artist's skills visible and help open up new projects and contexts where visual art and the visual artist can come into play.

Activities

Consultation response to the draft of the Copenhagen Municipality's climate strategy and action plan

We encourage visual arts to be considered as a strategic resource in climate work – not as an add-on, but as an integrated part of the solution. Experience from both Denmark and abroad shows that artistic involvement can strengthen local support, increase ownership and create more creative and sustainable solutions.

BKF's conference: The art of climate work

A large number of players in the fields of art, architecture and climate, among other things, gathered at the Danish Architecture Center for the launch of BKF's publication Demands for Change – Visual artists' skills in the green transition. This happens as a natural part of BKF's work as a trade union and interest organization - where improving visual artists' working conditions and opportunities, together with strengthening the role of art in society, is central.

Art can awaken our curiosity and make us more closely connected to nature. And once we care about the forest and nature, we naturally want to take care of it. This is the belief of visual artist and forester Rune Bosse, who ties trees together into eye-catching sculptures and plants red deciduous forest at an estate south of Præstø.
