Artists' Legal Aid

Artists' Legal Aid is based on the voluntary labor of law students and newly qualified lawyers and provides free legal advice.

All performing and creative artists, such as visual artists, actors, writers, designers and musicians can get assistance from Artists' Legal Aid, regardless of membership of artists' organisations.

You can either make a personal inquiry during legal aid's opening hours, call or write.

Artists' Legal Aid is housed in the secretariat of the Association of Visual Artists on Vesterbrogade in Copenhagen.

Legal aid can currently can only be contacted by e-mail.

Artists' Legal Aid advises when artists have legal problems in connection with their artistic work, e.g. about:

  • Copyright
  • Tax, VAT and other charges
  • Buying and selling art
  • The artist's relationship with the public, including complaints about the decisions of public authorities
  • Replacement, e.g. in case of breach of contract or damage to works of art
  • Insurance, what it covers and how the damage is settled
  • Good advice when entering into agreements
  • Questions in connection with use of the artist's workspace
  • Application for free process
