With this course, you will gain a basic knowledge of printing with reactive colors, both practically and theoretically. The properties of Remazol dyes in relation to color mixing, chemical binding to textile materials, authenticity in relation to light and colour, environmental aspects and certification will be reviewed. We work with GOTS-certified dyes.
Based on various textile materials such as cellulose fibers (cotton, linen, hemp, viscose) and protein fibers (silk and wool), various printing and painting techniques are tested: frame printing, monoprint, watercolor technique and patination.
You will be introduced to photo transfer of a motif/pattern to a print frame, color mixing and color recipes. In addition, pre- and post-treatment, washing and preparation of textiles for printing, fixation of printed textiles, stretching of textiles on the printing table, etc.

About the teacher: Bitten Hegelund is educated at the Royal Academy – Architecture, Design & Conservation, Copenhagen (formerly the School of Applied Arts) Textile Design, 1987. Since then she has had numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, and in 2001 she was employed as a technology instructor at the textile printing workshop at the Royal Academy. In summer 2022, she was employed as a workshop consultant at the Statens Værksteder for Art.
Application and target group:
The course is aimed at visual artists and designers with some experience with textile printing. The aim is to use the newly acquired printing techniques in own work production.
